Kadin Confident May Day is Momentum to Strengthen Worker-Employer Relations
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is confident that the commemoration of International Labour Day (May Day), observed every 1 May, serves as an important momentum to strengthen harmonious and productive industrial relations between workers and employers. Kadin General Chairman Anindya Bakrie stated in Jakarta on Friday that his organisation regards May Day as an opportunity to tighten synergy between workers and employers. In this context, Kadin consistently uses the term “workers” rather than “labourers,” as it better reflects their strategic position in the modern economic ecosystem. Furthermore, amid developments in the digital economy and technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, Kadin asserts that workers are an important part of human resources (HR) that determine company progress. “We view workers as strategic partners. Company advancement cannot be achieved without the contributions of superior, productive, and adaptive HR to changes,” said Anindya. He also expressed appreciation for the May Day commemorations held in various regions across Indonesia, including at the Monas area in Jakarta, attended by around 200,000 workers and President Prabowo Subianto. Kadin also stated its support for various government policies conveyed by the President in his 2026 May Day speech, including minimum wage increases, social protections, job creation, and strengthening vocational training. In addition, efforts to create jobs through investment and industrial downstreaming are considered an important foundation for absorbing national labour. As a strategic partner of the government, Kadin encourages the business world to continue expanding employment opportunities, especially for the younger generation and job seekers. Kadin also commits to strengthening collaboration through productivity enhancements, skill development, and technology adoption. Kadin hopes that May Day commemorations can continue to be celebrated peacefully, constructively, and with a spirit of togetherness. Amid global challenges, maintaining a conducive business climate is seen as the key to ensuring continuous investment growth and wider job opportunities.
