JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has confirmed that reports regarding a planned investment in a chicken farm from a Chinese investor worth Rp 1.4 trillion in Indonesia are still at the socialisation stage and have not yet entered the project development phase.

Deputy Chairman of Kadin for the Livestock Sector, Cecep M. Wahyudin, stated that Kadin did receive a delegation from China expressing interest in investing in the chicken farming sector in Indonesia.

The investment plan includes the construction of a feed factory, egg processing facilities in Aceh, and a breeding farm or chicken breeding facility that will partner with local farmers.

“It is still at the socialisation stage. So there is no development plan as large as what has been reported,” said Cecep during a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

Nevertheless, Cecep emphasised that they are still considering the domestic supply and demand conditions for eggs before pushing for further investment development.

“So far, Kadin, along with several ministries, especially the Ministry of Agriculture, has continuously communicated. So we fully understand what we should push and what we should not,” said Cecep.

He added that Kadin is also actively seeking export market opportunities for Indonesian livestock products. For example, last year, Kadin explored egg export opportunities to Singapore, which has so far relied on supplies from Malaysia and several other Asian countries.

“We are exploring the possibility of an export market to Singapore for eggs,” said Cecep.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture stated that it has directly requested clarification from Kadin regarding the widely discussed news of the Chinese chicken farm investment.

Director General of Livestock and Animal Health (Dirjen PKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda, said that the explanation was provided by Kadin during a meeting held at the Ministry of Agriculture’s office.

“(The meeting) clarified regarding the news of the Chinese investor’s plan to invest in laying hen farms,” said Agung at the same location.

Agung hopes that the public receives complete and accurate information regarding the investment news to avoid misunderstandings among the public and national livestock business actors.
