Kadin Chairman States Papua's Economic Potential Extends Beyond Gold and Copper
Jayapura (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is optimistic that Papua’s potential can strengthen the national economy and is not solely reliant on gold and copper commodities, but also on maritime and fisheries sectors supported by its strategic position in eastern Indonesia.
Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie, in Jayapura on Sunday, assessed that Papua possesses abundant natural resource advantages, ranging from the mining sector to forest products and maritime resources, yet these have not been fully optimised.
“Such potential is not only focused on commodities like gold and copper, but also encompasses the maritime and fisheries sectors that can serve as sources of sustainable economic growth,” he said.
According to Anindya, Papua also has significant opportunities in developing new renewable energy, particularly solar and hydropower, given its geographical conditions that support the utilisation of clean energy.
Papua, he stated, has the potential to strengthen national food security through the utilisation of vast agricultural lands and the development of local commodities.
On the other hand, Papua’s strategic geographical location in eastern Indonesia positions it as a potential gateway for trade to the Pacific region.
“To that end, strengthening infrastructure and logistical efficiency is key to optimising all these potentials so that they can be well integrated,” he said.
Anindya is confident that Papua can make a significant contribution to more inclusive and equitable national economic growth with support from infrastructure and logistics.
Previously, Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie also attended the VIII Provincial Deliberation (Musprov) of Kadin Papua and the Installation of the Chairman of Kadin Papua, Jecleana Joku, for the 2021-2026 term, held at the Papua Governor’s Office Hall in Jayapura City, Papua, on Saturday (11/4).
