Kadin: Business World Must Drive Towards 6 Per Cent Growth
The General Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, stated that the business world needs to increase its activities and contributions to support the government’s target of 6 per cent economic growth by 2027.
“At Kadin, we have a duty to strive, because otherwise, targets of 6, 7, or 8 per cent will not be achieved,” Anindya said during a Kadin Indonesia coordination meeting in Jakarta on Thursday.
Anindya noted that the business community should respond positively to the government’s economic optimism by driving business activities, investment, trade, and job creation.
According to him, Kadin has four main focuses in driving the business sector’s contribution to the national economy: upgrading micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), creating quality employment, promoting trade through industrialisation, and serving as a platform for the business community.
He stated that upgrading the status of MSMEs is a primary focus, as they comprise the majority of business units in Indonesia. Therefore, he believes the momentum of economic growth must be utilised to ensure MSMEs do not merely expand but also move up the value chain.
Furthermore, Kadin is encouraging the creation of quality jobs, given that the demand for employment continues to increase every year.
The next focus is to promote trade accompanied by industrialisation, so that business activities can increase Indonesia’s foreign exchange earnings.
Anindya also emphasised the importance of Kadin’s role as a hub for the business world, through Kadin at the provincial level and business associations with expertise in various fields.
He added that efforts to drive economic growth must be undertaken collectively by monitoring various economic indicators, including foreign direct investment (FDI), capital markets, and credit distribution.
