KA Bangunkarta Derailment Causes Multiple Train Cancellations
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has cancelled several train journeys following the derailment of the KA Bangunkarta on the Jombang–Pasarsenen route at the platform of Bumiayu Station in Brebes Regency, Central Java, on Monday (6/4) at 14:15 WIB.
The incident, which occurred at kilometre 312+1, has rendered the rail track impassable in both upstream and downstream directions, causing widespread disruption to train operations on that line.
KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, expressed apologies to all customers for the travel disruptions. “We extend our apologies to all customers for the journey disruptions due to the track obstruction from the KA Bangunkarta derailment in Bumiayu,” she stated.
To maintain overall travel flow, KAI has applied operational pattern engineering. Several train services have been fully cancelled, including KA Sawunggalih (113 & 116), KA Taksaka (45 & 48), KA Purwojaya (54-55 & 60F-57F), and KA Joglosemarkerto (185-186).
In addition to full cancellations, KAI has implemented partial route cancellations and train substitutions (wet-overstappen) on the Prupuk–Purwokerto section for KA Kamandaka, KA Sawunggalih, and KA Purwojaya. Meanwhile, KA Ranggajati has experienced partial journey cancellations.
KAI has also rerouted several long-distance trains to avoid the disruption site. KA Argo Semeru, Gayabaru Malam Selatan, Progo, and Senja Utama YK have been diverted via the Kroya–Bandung–Cikampek line. KA Bima, Manahan, and Jakatingkir have been rerouted via the northern line through Semarang.
Anne assured that all passengers and train crew are safe with no fatalities. The evacuation of the derailed train is currently underway, involving various parties.
“All customers and train crew are safe. The evacuation process is ongoing with support from TNI, Polri, and local authorities to restore the line as soon as possible,” she explained.
As a handling measure, KAI has prepared 10 bus units to transport passengers to their destinations or continue interrupted journeys.
“We have deployed 10 bus units to mobilise customers, along with service recovery in the form of food and drinks as per regulations,” Anne added.
Officers from various units, including track, bridge, and facility teams, are currently working at the incident site to accelerate line recovery while prioritising safety aspects.
“KAI understands that this disruption affects customers’ travel plans, so we are making every effort to normalise the line in accordance with safety standards,” she further stated.
