Juwono seeks decree on TNI businesses

JAKARTA: Minister of Defense Juwono Sudarsono said on Friday
that he was waiting for a presidential decree to enable him to go
ahead with his plans to take over the management of Indonesian
Military (TNI) businesses.

"I hope the decree will be issued in the next six months so
that I can press ahead with my plan to draw up an inventory of
military businesses," he said after installing a number of new
ministry officials, including new secretary-general Maj. Gen.
Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

Juwono said he would need more than two years just to shake up
management in the TNI businesses.

Earlier this week, TNI chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto said the
military would hand over all of its businesses to the government
within two years. --JP
