Jusuf Kalla Warns Government to Maintain Stability
Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla has warned the Indonesian government that it must anticipate potential consequences arising from combined military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran. Despite Indonesia’s geographical distance from the Middle East region, Kalla stressed that Indonesia must remain attentive to the global situation.
Israel launched an unprovoked attack against Iran on Saturday morning, 28 February 2026, described as a joint military operation between the US and Israel.
Kalla highlighted the numerous conflicts affecting Islamic nations, ranging from the Pakistan-Afghanistan war to conflicts in Syria and Yemen. “We are grateful that Indonesia remains safe compared to other Islamic countries. That is why we must preserve this and ensure that such conflicts do not occur within our borders,” Kalla told media representatives at his private residence in the Kebayoran Baru area of South Jakarta on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
Although Indonesia’s current situation is relatively secure, Kalla cautioned that the government must continually safeguard the domestic environment. According to Kalla, the government must maintain stability by delivering justice and peace to the people. “Currently, there are many protests directed at the government due to highly imbalanced activities,” Kalla said.
Kalla stated that injustice and inequality could trigger unrest or social problems. “We hope that Indonesia, particularly the government, will govern justly and also protect people by prioritising the welfare of society properly, so that what happens in other countries does not occur here,” Kalla said.
