Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK), who served as the tenth and twelfth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, paid tribute to Try Sutrisno, the sixth Vice President of Indonesia, as a figure who made significant contributions to the nation.

JK made these remarks before attending the funeral prayer for Try Sutrisno at Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

JK described the late Vice President as a person of exceptional character with great aspirations for the progress of the nation. “He was a very good person and certainly made great contributions to our nation. He also had great aspirations for all of us,” JK said at Sunda Kelapa Grand Mosque in Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.

One of Try Sutrisno’s notable qualities was his consistency in attending various activities and his willingness to provide counsel to many people. “As a nation, he certainly undertook good endeavours until the end of his life. He attended every event, and certainly provided good counsel to all of us,” JK said.

Try Sutrisno passed away at RSPAD Gatot Subroto hospital on Monday morning. His family stated that Try Sutrisno had no specific medical conditions that directly caused his death on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Taufik Dwi Cahyono, Try’s son, explained that his father’s health declined due to his advanced age of 90 years. “My father’s health decline was due to his age; everything deteriorates at that age. There was no specific illness; it was simply due to age-related decline in his respiratory capacity and similar issues,” Taufik said at RSPAD Gatot Subroto on Monday, as reported by Kompas TV.

Taufik stated that before his death, Try had been receiving treatment at RSPAD since 16 February 2026 after he experienced loss of appetite. Taufik said that the medical team at RSPAD and the presidential office had provided the best possible treatment to Try.
