Jusuf Kalla Meets Prabowo, Discusses Energy Self-Sufficiency and Green Investment
The 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla, met with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 11 June 2026. Also present at the meeting was Solihin Kalla, Jusuf Kalla’s son who serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kalla Group. Meanwhile, President Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel TNI Teddy Indra Wijaya. According to Kalla, one of the issues discussed during the meeting was the acceleration of energy self-sufficiency. Kalla stated his readiness to contribute to large-scale green energy development. “To increase energy, Indonesia’s energy capability, known as energy self-sufficiency, we are ready. We have already built 1,500 megawatts of hydroelectric power plants. We are ready to build another 2,000 megawatts, including gas-fired power plants,” Kalla told the press following the meeting with Prabowo at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon. Jusuf Kalla mentioned that the economic growth target of up to 8 percent requires strong energy support. He said President Prabowo approved the acceleration of national energy development, particularly green energy. “To be part of national development to support the economic growth conveyed by the President, up to 8 percent from the current 5 to 6 percent, that requires strong energy,” said the man often referred to as JK. Regarding the realisation of the energy development project, Kalla revealed potential investment worth tens of trillions of rupiah. He is confident the project can be realised because its technical planning has already been mapped out. “The development must have a business aspect because it is an investment. It is a large investment, we are talking about approximately Rp60 trillion to Rp70 trillion,” he said. “We are capable of implementing it. The design is ready, the location is ready, it is just a matter of technical discussions. The President has agreed for us to release it soon.” Aside from energy issues, Jusuf Kalla stated that the meeting with the Head of State also touched upon the geopolitical situation in several countries. “We discussed peace, what is happening in countries like Thailand and Afghanistan, that is what we talked about earlier as well,” he said.
