Jusuf Kalla Inaugurates As-Sholihin Mosque in Yokohama, Japan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The As-Sholihin Mosque in Yokohama was inaugurated on Friday (10/4/2026) by the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, in Yokohama, Japan.

The As-Sholihin Mosque in Yokohama becomes the first Indonesian mosque in Yokohama to meet the needs of the Muslim community, which for years has faced limitations in places of worship.

Stemming from this need, the Indonesian Muslim community in Yokohama took the initiative to seek land and launch a fundraising campaign.

This effort received widespread support, from the public, public figures, to artists and influencers, as well as participation from Muslims from various countries.

It is recorded that more than 1 million Muslims from Indonesia and various other countries contributed waqf to the construction of this mosque.

In his speech, Jusuf Kalla conveyed that the construction of this mosque is a tangible result of the cross-national gotong royong spirit.

“The effort to establish this mosque requires cooperation and gotong royong from the entire Indonesian community as well as from various countries. This is a good righteous deed for all of us,” said Jusuf Kalla, in his statement on Friday (10/4/2026).

He also highlighted the character of Japanese society, which he assessed as reflecting Islamic moral values, such as honesty, discipline, hard work, and cleanliness. He hopes that Indonesians can learn from this.

“This mosque, besides being a place of worship, is also a place to unite the community. Our mosques can be attended by people from NU, Muhammadiyah, Al-Washliyah, Persis—yes, come to the mosque together. We may have different schools of thought, but the mosque is the same; that is what makes us united, together. That is why we need this mosque,” he said.

Jusuf Kalla added that the mosque is not only a place of worship but also a centre for unity, education, and community advancement.
