Jusuf Kalla: If the Board of Peace Can Bring Peace to Palestine, We'll Support It
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The 10th and 12th Vice-Presidents, Jusuf Kalla (JK), said that Indonesia’s move regarding the Board of Peace (BoP) formed by US President Donald Trump should be viewed in terms of its impact on efforts to create peace, especially for Palestine. ‘Well, we should first see what will happen in the coming months. If the BoP could bring about peace in Palestine, for example, we will support it,’ JK said in a statement on Sunday, 8 March 2026. Kalla explained that a number of Muslim-majority countries in principle have a desire to support these peace efforts. He also reminded that support for international policies should not merely be symbolic but truly oriented towards resolving the conflict and achieving real peace. ‘It should not just be a symbol or merely be followers. Let us see the evidence like this: peace that is not opposed by violence,’ he said. Furthermore, JK believed that one of the key tests in the peace process is recognition of a Palestinian state as part of the two-state solution. ‘The way to reconcile it is by recognising Palestine. If not, just supporting Israel, what’s the point?’ he added.
