Jakarta - Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed concern over the cruel and unethical actions taken by the United States in conjunction with Israel against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“This is indeed a matter of concern for us regarding America’s conduct and the cruelty it has inflicted on Iran,” Kalla stated in Jakarta on Sunday.

He also expressed sadness over the death of Ali Khamenei following the joint US-Israeli attack.

“We are certainly deeply saddened that Iran’s leader Ali Khamenei has passed away,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kalla explained that the US-Israeli action against Iran was considered unethical because inter-state negotiations regarding nuclear matters were ongoing at the time.

“From an ethical standpoint, when negotiations are underway, one should not attack. This is indeed a situation that concerns us all greatly, as America attacks anything that does not align with its viewpoints,” he stated.

Previously, Israel launched an attack on Iran on 28 February 2026.

On a separate occasion, US President Donald Trump stated that American military forces had launched large-scale combat operations in Iran.

One of the joint US-Israeli attacks involved seven missiles that struck Tehran near the residence of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Subsequently, Iran launched a rocket assault on Israel and various other targets in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that President Prabowo Subianto is ready to travel to Iran to facilitate dialogue aimed at restoring conducive security conditions.

On 1 March 2026, the Iranian government confirmed the death of Ali Khamenei and announced a 40-day mourning period and one week of national holidays.
