Former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla, accompanied by his son Solihin Kalla, met with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6/2026). The pair arrived at approximately 2.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time and were received by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, who escorted them to the meeting.

Teddy stated that Kalla had requested the meeting several days prior. “Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla requested time to meet the President a few days ago. He came with his son, who is also a businessman,” Teddy said. He added that President Prabowo always maintains open communication and fosters ties with national figures and business actors to strengthen unity and build collaboration for national progress.

Following the meeting, Jusuf Kalla revealed that the discussion focused on accelerating national energy self-sufficiency. “We, Solihin and I, have just had a long discussion with the President, accompanied by the State Secretary and Cabinet Secretary, about increasing Indonesia’s energy capacity, known as energy self-sufficiency,” JK said.

He explained that the meeting covered energy investment projects, with designs and locations already prepared and ready for realisation. “This is related to development. Development must have a business aspect because it involves investment, large investment. We discussed an investment of around Rp 60-70 trillion, and we are capable of carrying it out,” JK stated. He confirmed that the President agreed to move forward with the project immediately.

JK noted that his group has experience building a 1,500 megawatt hydroelectric power plant and is now ready to develop a further 2,000 megawatts, including gas-fired power plants. He emphasised that energy availability is crucial for achieving the national economic growth target, stating that moving from 5-6% growth to 8% requires a robust energy supply. “The President agreed that we should immediately build national energy, especially green energy, to support national development and the economic growth target of 8%,” he said.

In addition to energy, JK and Prabowo also exchanged views on international peace issues, including developments in southern Thailand and relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
