Justice Minister: Government to Strictly Enforce Action Against Social Media Platforms Violating PP Tunas
The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation will carry out law enforcement, including blocking all platforms that do not comply with PP Tunas,” said Indonesian Justice Minister Supratman Andi Agtas in Padang on Monday. This was stated by Justice Minister Supratman Andi Agtas on the sidelines of the inauguration of Legal Aid Posts (Posbakum) for several districts and cities in West Sumatra Province (Sumbar). Justice Minister Supratman emphasised that after PP Tunas has been harmonised by relevant stakeholders, the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation now has strong legal basis to enforce the regulation. Therefore, he said, digital social media platforms that have not met the requirements of the Protection of Electronic System Governance for Child Protection must be dealt with firmly to protect the future of children. According to him, PP Tunas serves as a clear framework for society to protect children under 16 years old, particularly in the digital realm. Meanwhile, the Regent of Dharmasraya in West Sumatra Province, Annisa Suci Ramadhani, welcomed the birth of PP Tunas, viewing it as one of the government’s progressive steps in protecting children in the digital space. “This is certainly a good policy, and I fully agree that social media platforms pose a high risk,” said the Regent of Dharmasraya. According to her, there are many ways to teach children about technology without fully relying on social media. She stated that the local government will follow up on PP Tunas to ensure its implementation runs optimally. Although this policy has received positive responses from the public and stakeholders, she emphasised that the implementation of PP Tunas must be closely monitored to ensure it truly has a positive impact, especially in protecting children under 16 years old.
