Junior High School Student Allegedly Assaulted at Sepanjang Beach, Gunungkidul

Reports of a junior high school student being assaulted in the Pantai Sepanjang area of Tanjungsari, Gunungkidul, have circulated on social media. Police have received a report from the victim’s family and are currently conducting an investigation.

“A junior high school teenager is believed to have been the victim of an assault in the Pantai Sepanjang area, Tanjungsari, Gunungkidul, on Saturday afternoon (22/8/2026). The victim’s father, Yohanes Supoyo, said his son suffered injuries to his legs, hands, back, and ribs. The alleged assault was said to have been carried out by two individuals with the initials AF and IQ,” wrote the Instagram account @gunungkidul_viral2, as seen by detikJogja on Monday (24/8/2026).

Tanjungsari Police Chief AKP Agus Fitriyatna confirmed the incident. Agus explained that the incident began when the alleged perpetrator instructed a friend to contact the victim, ZB (13), a resident of Suru, Kemadang, Tanjungsari, via WhatsApp on Friday (21/8) at 7.30pm WIB.

“The alleged perpetrator invited the victim to meet on Saturday (22/8/2026) at around 2pm WIB in the Pantai Sepanjang area for clarification,” said Agus when contacted by detikJogja on Monday (24/8/2026).

The victim and his friend then met the two alleged perpetrators in the Pantai Sepanjang area on Saturday afternoon (22/8). Upon arriving at the location, the victim was already waiting for the alleged perpetrators and their companions.

“The alleged perpetrator then immediately kicked the victim’s left leg. Not only that, another alleged perpetrator kicked the victim’s back, causing him to fall forward,” said Agus.

After assaulting the victim, the alleged perpetrators and their group left the victim. The victim’s family then reported the incident to the Tanjungsari Police.

“The victim reported it on Saturday night (22/8), and the report has been received by us,” said Agus.

Agus added that the police have not yet named any suspects in the case. This is because naming a suspect must be supported by evidence.

“It is still under investigation. If there are any developments, they will be communicated later,” he concluded.
