Junior high school brawl in Depok leaves one student with machete wound
A brawl between groups of junior high school students broke out on Jalan Tiga Putera, Meruyung, Limo District, Depok, West Java, leaving one student with a machete wound to the head.
Cinere Police Chief Kompol Chairul Saleh confirmed the incident occurred on Monday evening at around 7.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. Officers from Cinere Police and the duty unit visited and examined the crime scene.
The victim has been identified as FIM, a 13-year-old seventh-grade student at SMP Citra Bangsa Krukut and a resident of Grogol, Limo District, Depok. He suffered a 12-centimetre gash on the left side of his head requiring nine stitches, a 2-centimetre tear on his temple requiring three stitches, and abrasions on his wrist from falling onto the asphalt.
Chairul explained that the chronology began when the victim FIM was picked up by his friend D on a motorcycle at around 7.00 p.m. on Monday. The pair then picked up another friend, R, and headed towards the Kopo Limo Cemetery area. There, they joined an alliance of students from SMP Citra Bangsa and SMP Utama. This group then planned a brawl against students from SMP Gelora in the Limo horse racing arena area.
While heading to the horse racing arena, FIM acted as the motorcycle rider, carrying D and R as passengers. Upon arrival, the opposing group proved to have overwhelming numbers. Seeing the situation, D, who had dismounted to scout ahead, quickly returned to the motorcycle and the trio decided to flee towards Jalan Tiga Putera, Meruyung. As they rode along Jalan Tiga Putera, their motorcycle was kicked by the opposing group, causing them to fall.
R and D managed to escape on foot, while FIM became the target of a machete attack by the rival group. Local residents who witnessed the incident immediately assisted FIM and contacted his family. The victim was rushed to the As-Syifa Parung Bingung Clinic for medical treatment and later allowed to return home by his family for outpatient care.
Kompol Chairul Saleh added that police took swift action after the incident, including visiting the crime scene, questioning witnesses including local residents, searching for CCTV footage, and urging the victim’s family to file an official police report. Regarding the police report, the victim’s family, represented by his biological father, stated they would hold internal family discussions first.
