JumpStart Secures Series C Funding from Cool Japan Fund Inc
JumpStart, the largest vending machine operator in Indonesia, has announced that it has secured additional investment from Cool Japan Fund Inc. (CJF), moving the company from the Series B to the Series C stage. This latest funding further strengthens JumpStart’s position as a distribution platform for high-quality Japanese food and beverage products in Indonesia through its modern vending machine infrastructure.
Brian Imawan, CEO of JumpStart Indonesia, stated that the continued support from Cool Japan Fund serves as a strong validation of the company’s vision and business development direction. “We are not just building a vending machine network; we are creating a scalable distribution platform to connect global brands, particularly from Japan, with the ever-growing Indonesian consumer market,” Brian said in a statement on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
The new funding is earmarked to bolster JumpStart’s business development, ranging from expanding product variety—specifically with Japanese partners—to strengthening the company’s operational infrastructure and supply chain. Additionally, Brian noted that JumpStart will continue to develop the use of data and consumer insights to provide a more personalised and relevant consumer experience.
He added that the follow-on investment from Cool Japan Fund reflects confidence in JumpStart’s ability to drive business growth while strengthening cultural exchange through the distribution of Japanese products and lifestyle via innovative retail channels. With growing momentum, JumpStart is optimistic about strengthening its position as a key player in Indonesia’s automated retail sector and serving as a gateway for international brands to enter and expand in the Indonesian market.
“This investment will be used to support the sustainable expansion of the JumpStart vending machine network, which is equipped with AI technology and cashless payment systems,” Brian emphasised. Currently, the network is present in various locations, including offices, shopping centres, and public facilities across various regions of Indonesia. As of December 2025, JumpStart operates more than 6,400 vending machines throughout Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth journey.
JumpStart’s journey began in 2018 with smart coffee vending machines and has since evolved into a more diverse automated retail ecosystem. JumpStart offers various types of vending machines, including smart mart vending machines, fresh beverage machines (such as orange and apple juice), ice cream and cotton candy machines, as well as interactive concepts like mystery boxes and gamified vending machines designed for brand activation.
All solutions can be customised to meet the specific needs of each brand, enabling an engaging, personalised, and data-driven consumer experience at scale. The JumpStart ecosystem combines smart technology with curated products to bring a variety of high-quality Japanese food and beverages to Indonesian consumers, ranging from drinks and confectionery to snacks and ready-to-eat products.
Through its AI-based and cashless vending machine network, JumpStart not only provides a more practical and modern shopping experience but also opens new distribution channels for various Japanese brands to reach the Indonesian and Southeast Asian markets. Continuous innovation has driven significant business growth for JumpStart; by the end of 2025, the company operated over 6,500 vending machines across Indonesia and recorded financial performance growth of up to 200 per cent compared to the previous year.
