Jumhur Hidayat's Words Ahead of Being Sworn in as Minister at the Palace
Labour figure Jumhur Hidayat arrived at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta amid rumours of official appointments on Monday (27/4). Jumhur arrived just before 14:00 WIB, dressed in a black suit with a light blue tie, accompanied by his family. He had little to say to the media before entering the palace building. He admitted receiving news about the cabinet members’ swearing-in that morning. “This morning, yes,” he said. Prabowo is reportedly holding the swearing-in ceremony today. Jumhur’s name is tipped to be one of those sworn in as Minister of Environment. However, Jumhur claimed he did not yet know what position he would be sworn into. “What minister, I don’t know yet,” he said, before giving a longer response about activities ahead of International Labour Day (May Day) on 1 May. Meanwhile, KSPSI leader Andi Ghani confirmed the plan to appoint Jumhur Hidayat as Minister of Environment. Currently, the position of Minister of Environment is held by Hanif Faisol. “From last Sunday to the palace. Minister of Environment, yes, true,” he said when confirmed by reporters on Monday (27/4). President Prabowo Subianto is reportedly set to conduct a reshuffle or reorganisation of the Merah Putih Cabinet on Monday (27/4). Head of the Presidential Staff Office M. Qodari previously stated that the cabinet reshuffle is the prerogative of President Prabowo Subianto. He said this in response to a question about whether he would be sworn in as Head of the Government Communication Agency today. “That’s all the President’s prerogative. We’ll just wait for developments from him,” Qodari said via short message on Monday (27/4). Rumours of a cabinet reshuffle have been rife in recent times. Several ministerial names, such as the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, are in the pool of those to be replaced. Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya also commented on the reshuffle rumours. He asked the public to wait for the implementation of the reshuffle. Nevertheless, at that time Teddy did not reveal further details about who would be removed and when the reshuffle itself would take place.
