Jumhur Hidayat states that Presidential Decree on PHK Mitigation is ready to be issued
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Labour activist and newly appointed Minister of Environment Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat stated that a Presidential Decree (Keppres) on Mitigating Termination of Employment (PHK) will soon be issued to protect the national industry.
Jumhur said at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday that the issuance of this regulation is expected to provide a way out for companies so that PHK of employees does not become an easy decision.
Jumhur emphasised the importance of internal prevention efforts at the company level before taking steps towards dismissal.
The General Chairman of the All-Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPSI) explained that there are several technical schemes to avoid workforce reductions.
One of the proposed steps is to adjust operational working hours.
“Actually, there is a way where working hours can be reduced first, then one day in, one day off, that is part of avoiding PHK first,” said Jumhur.
Jumhur also highlighted the problem of illegal goods entering the country, which is seen as hindering the growth of the domestic industrial sector. He urged for firm action against such illegal practices as a long-term solution.
“If the illegals are tackled, the industry will grow, something like that,” said Jumhur, explaining the link between law enforcement and job stability.
General Chairman of the All-Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPSI) Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as Minister of Environment in the Red and White Cabinet, replacing Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
Jumhur conveyed that he will focus on handling several issues, including the waste problem in Indonesia, and ensure its management follows global standards.
He stated that with strong commitment from President Prabowo Subianto, he is confident that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) team will be able to carry out its duties and achieve targets on those issues.
