Jumhur Hidayat Reportedly to Be Sworn In as Minister in Prabowo's Cabinet
Chairman of the All-Indonesian Labour Confederation (KSPSI), Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, is reportedly soon to become a minister in the Cabinet Merah Putih amid renewed speculation of a cabinet reshuffle. Jumhur confirmed the news that he will be sworn in by President Prabowo Subianto.
“Yes, it’s true (I will be sworn in by the president as a minister),” said the former Head of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) when contacted on Monday, 27 April 2026.
Jumhur has not responded to questions regarding the position he will occupy or when the inauguration will take place. On the other hand, news of Jumhur’s entry into the cabinet has been circulating within the internal scope of labour organisations since last week.
KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea acknowledged this. “I have heard of plans for a labour figure to enter the cabinet since last week. Jumhur’s entry represents the labour community,” said Andi via telephone on Monday.
According to Andi, he communicates with Jumhur every day, including on Sunday night, 26 April 2026. He also conveyed a message to Jumhur not to abandon the ideology and spirit of labour when he becomes an official in the future.
The emergence of a labour figure in the reshuffle speculation is linked to the discourse on forming a labour welfare council that Prabowo once mentioned during the International Labour Day commemoration on 1 May 2025. However, to date, that organisation has not yet been established.
According to a Tempo informant from a labour organisation, Prabowo is reportedly planning to form a layoff task force as a replacement for that welfare council. In the coming days, said this source, officials of this task force will be sworn in.
Reshuffle rumours have circulated several times since the beginning of this year. At the end of January 2026, the rumour gained traction after Prabowo’s nephew, Thomas Djiwandono, was appointed as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. Thomas’s appointment automatically vacated the Deputy Minister of Finance position he previously held.
That news proved true when President Prabowo swore in former Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Juda Agung, to fill that position. Thomas and Juda swapped roles.
Rumours of a cabinet reshuffle also circulated when another nephew of Prabowo, Budisatrio Djiwandono, was said to join the cabinet, as stated by Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Utut Adianto. Utut made that statement during a working meeting with the Ministry of Defence and the Indonesian National Armed Forces on Monday, 26 January 2026.
Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya neither confirmed nor denied the news when asked if there were plans for a reshuffle in the near future. He only asked the public to await official news of the reshuffle of the president’s aides.
Teddy was asked again whether the cabinet reshuffle would be carried out in April 2026, but he refused to answer directly. He only mentioned that President Prabowo would explain. “Later, the President will tell the story,” said Teddy at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
