Jumhur Hidayat Present at the Palace: There is an Inauguration
Chairman of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPSI), Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, visited the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, 27 April 2026. He had previously been reported to become a minister in the Cabinet Merah Putih.
Jumhur stated that he was invited to attend the inauguration. “I am here because there is an inauguration,” he said upon arriving at the location this afternoon with his children and wife.
According to Jumhur, discussions about positions in the cabinet had been held with President Prabowo Subianto some time ago. However, Jumhur has not yet revealed the position he will hold in Prabowo’s cabinet. “We’ll talk about that later, I can’t jump the gun, it’s not appropriate,” he remarked.
Jumhur had previously been reported to become the Minister of Environment, replacing Hanif Faisol Nurofiq. Meanwhile, Hanif is said to receive a new position as Deputy Minister Coordinator for Food Affairs.
On the same occasion, Jumhur also discussed plans for the formation of the Layoff Task Force or Satgas PHK. According to him, President Prabowo has conveyed plans to form the Satgas as proposed by the workers in the near future.
On the other hand, news of Jumhur’s entry into the cabinet has been circulating within the internal scope of labour organisations since last week. KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea acknowledged this. “I have heard plans for labour figures to enter the cabinet since last week. Jumhur’s entry represents the labour community,” Andi said via telephone on Monday.
According to Andi, he communicates with Jumhur every day, including on Sunday night, 26 April 2026. He also conveyed a message to Jumhur not to abandon the ideology and spirit of labour when he becomes an official in the future.
The emergence of labour figures in the reshuffle issue is linked to the discourse on forming a labour welfare council that Prabowo once mentioned during the International Labour Day commemoration on 1 May 2025. However, to date, that organisation has not yet been formed.
According to a Tempo source from a labour organisation, Prabowo is reportedly going to form the PHK task force as a replacement for that welfare council. In the coming days, said this source, the officials of this task force will be inaugurated.
