Jumhur Becomes Minister, KSPSI President: This is an Honour for Workers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The President of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, stated that the inauguration of KSPSI General Chairman Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat as Minister of Environment in the Red and White Cabinet represents an honour for workers.
“I was already aware that a labour figure would enter the cabinet, and we consider this an honour for the entire Indonesian labour movement,” Andi said in Jakarta on Monday.
He also conveyed a message to Jumhur to not abandon the idealism and ideology of the workers’ struggle after being inaugurated as a minister.
KSPSI General Chairman Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat was recently inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as Minister of Environment in the Red and White Cabinet, replacing Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
Hanif Faisol Nurofiq was inaugurated on the same day as Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food.
He continued his studies at the National University and then pursued a Master’s programme at the University of Indonesia in Sociology.
In January 2007, he was appointed as Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) by the 6th President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and completed his tenure on 11 March 2014. BNP2TKI is now known as the Ministry of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers.
