Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has disclosed a giant gas discovery Geliga in the Kutai Basin with significant resource potential. Secretary of the Directorate General of Oil and Gas Muhammad Rizwi Jilanisaf Hisjam explained that the Geliga-1 well has gas resource potential of 5 trillion cubic feet (TCF) and condensate reaching 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE). In addition, there is also gas potential in Gula with reserves of around 2 TCF and condensate of 75 MMBOE. ‘Thus, the total production potential is 7 TCF of gas and 375 million barrels of oil equivalent of condensate,’ Rizwi said at a Public Hearing with Commission XII of the DPR RI, on Thursday (21/5/2026). He further elaborated that in its development plan, the production potential from the Geliga and Gula projects is expected to yield gas of around 1,000 MMSCFD and condensate of around 80,000 BOEPD. He noted that the discovery is one of the strategic finds in the Kutai Basin that is hoped to strengthen national gas supply and support domestic energy needs in the future. ‘This discovery confirms the scale of the project as very large, strategic, and playing an important role in supporting national energy resilience and providing a sustainable gas supply,’ he said.
