Judicial Commission Vows to Follow Up Nadiem Makarim's Legal Team's Report Against Four Corruption Court Judges, Appeal Process Also Under Watch

The Judicial Commission (KY) has confirmed it will follow up on a report submitted by the legal team of former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, against four judges of the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor). The report concerns alleged ethical violations during the trial that led to a 10-year prison sentence for Nadiem in a case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM).

The Judicial Commission stated that every incoming report will be processed according to the mechanisms and authority of the institution. KY member and spokesperson Anita Kadir said the commission would first examine the report before taking further steps. She emphasised that the handling process would be carried out professionally in accordance with the KY’s duties and functions.

Anita explained that the Judicial Commission is striving to respond to the report swiftly, given the high public attention on the case. However, she stressed that the KY does not have the authority to assess or correct the substance of a court ruling. The KY’s focus is solely on supervising the behaviour and ethical conduct of judges in carrying out their judicial duties.

In addition to examining the ethical report, the KY confirmed it will continue to oversee the appeal process filed by Nadiem’s legal team. The commission aims to ensure the integrity of the judiciary throughout the proceedings. The four judges reported to the KY are presiding judge Purwanto S. Abdullah and panel members Eryusman, Sunoto, and Mardiantos.
