Judicial Commission proposes sanctions against 90 judges in first half of 2026

The Judicial Commission (KY) has proposed sanctions against 90 judges found to have violated the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Judges (KEPPH) during the period from January to June 2026. KY Secretary-General Arie Sudihar stated that the commission received 1,625 public reports concerning alleged ethical breaches by judges in the first half of the year. “For judicial conduct oversight, KY has received 1,625 public reports and has proposed sanctions against 90 judges, as well as issued warnings to two judges,” Arie said during a working meeting with House of Representatives Commission III at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday. In addition to conduct oversight, KY and the Supreme Court convened six sessions of the Judicial Honour Panel (MKH) in the first semester of 2026 to follow up on alleged ethical violations. In the area of judicial advocacy, KY handled 14 reports or pieces of information concerning alleged acts that demean the honour and dignity of judges across 14 courts. Regarding trial monitoring, KY received 543 monitoring requests. A total of 149 requests were followed up through direct trial observation, 85 through correspondence, while 90 requests could not be acted upon. “The remainder are still being processed internally,” Arie noted. Arie also reported that as of the first semester of 2026, KY’s budget realisation reached Rp87.4 billion, or 59.91 percent of the total budget ceiling of Rp146.048 billion. “KY has submitted a request for additional budget to the government, which is currently under discussion at the Directorate General of Budget of the Ministry of Finance,” he said.
