Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Judicial Commission (KY) assures that the selection process for candidates for Supreme Court judges and ad hoc human rights (HAM) judges as well as ad hoc corruption (tipikor) judges will proceed transparently and independently.

Prof Andi M. Asrun, Chairman of the KY’s Judge Recruitment Division, confirmed in Jakarta on Friday that the public and media can monitor the selection process and follow its every stage.

“The selection process for Supreme Court judge candidates is open, and the public can follow the selection flow through the KY website and mass media, as well as being monitored by anti-corruption NGOs,” said Asrun.

He explained that the results of the selection for Supreme Court and ad hoc candidates are conducted on the basis of blind-review, or without knowing the participants’ identities during the assessment of the selection tests.

To ensure the transparency and independence of the selection process, KY also involves several parties in selecting the candidates by forming a selection team from various parties.

“The selection team also involves community figures and academics with anti-corruption credibility,” he stated.

Asrun emphasised that KY also ensures that the selected Supreme Court and ad hoc judges are based on their competence and integrity without any infiltration of political interests.

“Ad hoc judges are selected based on competence and integrity, not on political appointments,” he said.

Asrun guarantees that this will not happen, drawing on his experience as a court monitor from 2001 to 2003.

“My experience from 2001-2003 as a court monitor should benefit this selection process,” he said.

“Please, mass media, continue to monitor the selection process for these judge candidates, and report to KY if negative background information on certain candidates is found,” Asrun continued.

Previously, KY officially announced the opening of submissions for Supreme Court judge candidates and ad hoc HAM judges as well as ad hoc tipikor judges online through its official website.

Registration is open to all Indonesian citizens. The online registration opened on 26 March and will end on 16 April 2026.
