Judges training for environment cases
SOLO, Central Java: The Supreme Court has prepared judges to try alarming environmental crimes across the country, Chief Justice Bagir Manan said Thursday.
"At least 1,000 judges have been assigned to handle environmental crimes," Bagir was quoted by Antara as saying in Solo, Central Java after briefing judges assigned to the Surakata Religious Court.
He said some of the judges were still in overseas training courses, while some were learning the ropes here.
Bagir also said that many environmental cases had been brought to court, but he admitted that the results failed to meet the people's expectations for justice.
"If there are perceptions that the outcomes are still far from the people's sense of justice, that is merely an opinion," he said. --Antara
