Judges to learn about labor settlement

JAKARTA: Labor and ad hoc judges from Indonesia and Timor Leste will on Tuesday commence a three-day workshop in Jakarta, as part of efforts to improve industrial relations and labor adjudication.

During the event, which is sponsored by the International Labor Organization, the judges will look at ways of promoting effective settlement and resolution of labor disputes. For Indonesia's part the workshop will be crucial ahead of the implementation of Law No. 2/2004 on industrial dispute settlement next year.

"The key issues in dispute settlement are speed, cost and justice. Therefore, there is an urgent need for modern procedures and administrative systems as justice delayed is justice denied," ILO country director Alan Boulton said in a statement. -- JP
