Judges summarise 1,146-page verdict for Nadiem

The panel of judges at the Corruption Crime Court in Central Jakarta decided not to read out the entire 1,146-page verdict document for defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim during the sentencing hearing on Tuesday. Presiding Judge Purwanto Abdullah stated that the complete ruling would be accessible to the parties involved once the verification and signing process is completed. “After this verdict reading, the public prosecutor, advocates, and the defendant can access it through the One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP) after we verify and sign it,” Purwanto said during the hearing. He explained that the panel would only read the legal considerations section, comprising 122 pages, along with the verdict. The full verdict document, totalling 1,146 pages, is likely to be uploaded via the e-Berpadu system. “Considering the defendant’s ongoing illness, we are reading the verdict efficiently,” he said. Before the session began, the panel inquired about Nadiem’s health, and the defendant confirmed he had suffered two recent infections and had been hospitalised prior to the hearing. Nadiem is the defendant in a case concerning alleged corruption in the education digitalisation programme, specifically the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management licences within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2020 to 2022. Prosecutors allege his actions caused state losses of up to Rp2.18 trillion, consisting of Rp1.56 trillion related to the digitalisation programme and approximately Rp621.39 billion linked to the procurement of CDM licences deemed unnecessary for the programme. Several other parties, including Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam, Mulyatsyah, Sri Wahyuningsi, and Jurist Tan, have also been implicated and remain at large.
