Judges of MPR 4-Pillar Quiz Competition Sanctioned and Barred from Future Involvement

The Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Abcandra Muhammad Akbar Supratman, has revealed that the institution will no longer involve the judges of the 2026 West Kalimantan Provincial 4-Pillar Quiz Competition (LCC) in future competitions. He also noted that the judges have already faced social sanctions from the public.

“This includes evaluating the judges and ensuring they are not involved again. This should serve as a response to the previous LCC activities that caused public uproar,” Akbar stated during a press conference at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (18/5/2026). While there has been no official discussion regarding the duration of this blacklist, he emphasised that the public backlash has already acted as a significant social sanction.

Akbar promised that the MPR will conduct a thorough evaluation of all future 4-Pillar LCC implementations. He noted that the feedback provided by SMAN 1 Pontianak and SMAN 1 Sambas was sufficient to provide an explanation to the public. Furthermore, the MPR will now appoint judges from the field of constitutional law experts rather than using MPR personnel.

Akbar apologised for the recent turmoil and requested the full support of the Indonesian people to ensure future implementations run smoothly. The controversy erupted during a match between SMAN 1 Pontianak and SMAN 1 Sambas. During the competition, a question was asked regarding which institution the DPR must consider when selecting members of the BPK. The team from SMAN 1 Pontianak provided an answer that the judges deemed incorrect, resulting in a 5-point deduction, whereas the SMAN 1 Sambas team provided the exact same answer but received a 10-point bonus. Clips of the match went viral, leading to widespread public disappointment and an initial offer from the MPR for a rematch. However, both schools declined a re-run of the final, leading the MPR to cancel any further competition for this session.
