Judge's Flight Disrupted by Volcanic Ash, Roy Suryo's Pre-Trial Hearing Postponed
The fifth pre-trial hearing filed by Roy Suryo has been postponed. The sole judge handling the pre-trial, I Ketut Darpawan, has been unable to return to Jakarta because his flight was disrupted by volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
“The judge concerned is in a state of force majeure due to the impact of the eruption, which caused all flights to be cancelled since yesterday morning, so he cannot return to Jakarta as scheduled,” said Halida Rahardini, spokesperson for the South Jakarta District Court, to reporters on Monday (7/9/2028).
Halida said Darpawan subsequently travelled to Jakarta by sea and land. She said Darpawan was still on his way.
“Please pray for the land and sea journey he has been undertaking since yesterday, so that all the trials under his responsibility can proceed smoothly,” she said.
The hearing should have been held today at the South Jakarta District Court at 08.30 WIB. The agenda was the summons of the parties, both the applicant and the respondent.
Roy Suryo is known to have filed for pre-trial five times. The first pre-trial related to the search, arrest and detention. This claim was granted in part.
Roy Suryo then lost in three other pre-trials. This fifth pre-trial was registered under case number 149/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL.
