Judge Wants Andrie Yunus to Appear Virtually Next Week
The military court has scheduled the examination of KontraS coordinator Andrie Yunus in the continuation of the trial of four accused TNI soldiers in the acid attack case for next week. The judge suggested that Andrie Yunus’s examination be conducted via Zoom.
This was stated by the Chief Judge of the Panel, Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto, at the trial of Military Court II-08 in Penggilingan, Cakung, East Jakarta, on Thursday (7/5/2026). Initially, the military prosecutor stated that they were still corresponding with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) regarding the availability and condition of Andrie Yunus to be presented in court.
“I request permission; we are still endeavouring to present the additional witness, Mr Andrie Yunus. We are still corresponding with the LPSK, and the latest letter has not yet been responded to,” said the military prosecutor during the trial.
However, Judge Colonel Chk Fredy still wanted Andrie Yunus to be examined as a witness in this trial. The judge proposed that Andrie Yunus be presented via Zoom on 13 May 2026, which coincides with the agenda for examining the defendants.
“We will schedule it all together next Wednesday, the 13th (May). The agenda is the examination of the defendants along with the examination of Mr AY,” said Judge Fredy.
“So we start at 09:00 WIB or 10:00 WIB with the Zoom ready; if he joins, we examine him. We will still examine Mr AY, the additional witness, via Zoom on the 13th. After that, the examination of the defendants if there are no more to be presented, that’s it,” he added.
In this trial, the four TNI soldiers are accused of throwing acid on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The military prosecutor stated that the defendants carried out the action because they were annoyed with Andrie.
In the indictment, the defendants are said to have learned on 16 March 2025 that Andrie entered and interrupted a meeting discussing the revision of the TNI Law held by the DPR at the Fairmont Hotel in South Jakarta. The defendants considered Andrie’s actions to have insulted the TNI institution.
“Due to that incident, the defendants considered Mr Andrie Yunus to have insulted the TNI institution, even trampling on the TNI institution,” said the prosecutor while reading the indictment.
The prosecutor stated that Defendant I wanted to give Andrie a lesson as a deterrent effect. Then, Defendant II suggested the idea of splashing rust cleaner liquid.
In short, the defendants sought information about Andrie Yunus’s activities. They divided tasks when carrying out the splashing.
The four soldiers are charged with violating Article 469 paragraph 1 subsidiary Article 468 paragraph 1 further subsidiary Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
