Judge Sentences Ibam to Four Years in Prison in Chromebook Case
The panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, alias Ibam, to four years in prison in the alleged corruption case concerning the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
“The panel hereby sentences the defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam to imprisonment for 4 years and a fine of Rp500 million,” said the Chief Judge, Purwanto S Abdullah, during the trial at the Corruption Court, Central Jakarta District Court, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
Purwanto stated that Ibam was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment accompanied by a fine of Rp500 million.
The payment deadline for the fine may be extended by one month.
“It is stipulated that if the fine is not paid within the specified period, the defendant’s assets or income may be seized and auctioned to settle the unpaid fine. If the proceeds from the seizure and auction of assets and income are insufficient or it is not possible to execute the unpaid fine, it shall be replaced with imprisonment for 120 days,” he explained.
“It is stipulated that the city detention period already served by the defendant shall be fully deducted from the imposed prison sentence,” he said.
The panel of judges also ordered that Ibrahim Arief remain in custody.
“It is stipulated that the defendant be detained,” he emphasised.
In this case, the public prosecutor (JPU) had previously demanded that Ibrahim Arief be sentenced to 15 years in prison with a fine of Rp1 billion, subsidiary 190 days of imprisonment.
The prosecutors also demanded that Ibam pay restitution of Rp16,922,945,800, which is said to stem from the corruption proceeds of the Chromebook laptop procurement programme. If the restitution is not paid, the JPU requested that Ibam’s assets and property be confiscated for the state.
If the proceeds from the asset confiscation are insufficient, Ibrahim is demanded to serve an additional prison sentence of 7 years and 6 months.
In the indictment, the prosecutors stated that Ibam prepared a technical study referencing a specific product, namely Chromebook. He is also said to have presented several materials to ministry officials to select Chromebook as the procurement product.
In addition, the JPU highlighted the increase in Ibam’s wealth amounting to Rp16.9 billion, which is believed to originate from the criminal act of corruption.
