Judge Requests Nadiem to Complete Documents for Consideration of Custody Transfer
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The panel of judges has requested former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim to complete several documents as considerations before deciding whether to transfer custody for Nadiem or not in the handling of the alleged corruption case regarding the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
“The panel of judges requires that, possibly from the defendant or through his advocate, a willingness regarding matters if the panel of judges grants the request,” said the Chief Judge Purwanto S Abdullah during the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (6/4/2026).
“The place to be determined, the defendant must meet the requirements, such as not leaving the place, for example, for house arrest or city detention if transferred,” continued Judge Purwanto.
The judge also requested a statement letter from Nadiem to have him fitted with a monitoring device.
“You must report regularly to the public prosecutor. Of course, also surrender your passport. We are anticipating concerns,” added Purwanto.
Furthermore, Nadiem is prohibited from conducting interviews or giving statements to the media when his custody is transferred. However, he may still provide statements in post-trial intercept interviews or doorstops.
In addition, he is prohibited from creating content that could generate new opinions in his case.
“For example, while undergoing detention, do not make vlogs or participate in interviews or create anything. The point is not to form other opinions,” continued the judge.
“Furthermore, willingness to attend the scheduled trials,” said the Judge again.
Nadiem’s side is requested to promptly fulfil the requested documents so that this custody transfer can be considered by the judge.
“This is not yet certain whether it will be transferred or suspended. We are only requesting a statement of willingness from the defendant to address the concerns from the public prosecutor as conveyed in the trial. And hopefully, it will become material for the panel’s deliberation going forward,” concluded Judge Purwanto.
The transfer of detention was requested by Nadiem due to health disturbances.
