Judge reported for corruption

JAKARTA: After filing a complaint with the city police last weekend, a lawyer reported a South Jakarta District Court judge, Torang Tampubolon, to the Supreme Court on Monday for alleged extortion.

"We demand the Supreme Court immediately investigate the case," Wawan Iriawan, lawyer for PT Satya Teguh Persada, said at the court building.

He added that he had strong evidence to support the allegations, including a receipt for a cellular phone that was bought for Tampubolon. He also had a witness who had handed over the phone to the judge.

The judge was handling a commercial case dispute involving PT Satya Teguh Persada and PT Asri Kencana Gemilang.

The lawyer said that after his client granted the judge's request to buy him a cell phone, the judge asked for Rp 3 billion in exchange for a ruling in favor of the company. The request was rejected and PT Satya Teguh Persada eventually lost the case.--JP
