The South Jakarta District Court has rejected a pretrial motion filed by Roy Suryo, ruling that his designation as a suspect in a defamation case concerning President Joko Widodo’s diploma is legally valid. The sole judge, I Ketut Darpawan, stated that the motion was an attempt to delay the main trial. Previously, the court had partially granted a separate pretrial motion regarding the search, arrest, and detention, but clarified that this ruling did not affect the core of the case. Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, were both named as suspects in the diploma defamation case. Their case files have been transferred to the East Jakarta District Court. The trial for Dr Tifa has progressed to the response to exceptions, while Roy Suryo’s trial has yet to commence pending the outcome of this pretrial decision.
