Judge Rebukes TNI Sergeant Who Threw Acid on Andrie Yunus: Don't Daydream

The judge momentarily reprimanded Sergeant Two TNI Edi Sunarko, the defendant in the trial for the acid-throwing incident against kontraS activist Andrie Yunus at the Jakarta Military Court on Wednesday (29/4).

Defendant I in this case is Sergeant Two Edi Sunarko, Defendant II is First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Defendant III is Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and Defendant IV is First Lieutenant Sami Lakka.

Initially, the judge asked about the defendant who was also said to have been hit by the liquid when Andrie Yunus was doused.

“Is this Defendant I, where was Defendant II earlier? Defendant I?” the judge asked.

“Ready,” Edi replied.

The judge then asked Edi not to daydream. The judge confirmed with Edi about being hit by the liquid in the indictment.

“Don’t daydream. Earlier in the indictment, you were hit?” the judge asked.

“Ready,” Edi replied.

“Where were you hit?” the judge asked.

“On the arm, chest, neck, mouth, eye,” Edi answered. He pointed to the parts affected by the acid splash.

The judge then asked Edi to remove the hat he was wearing. However, Edi instead took off his glasses.

“Take off your hat,” the judge said. Edi then removed his hat.

The judge asked which eye of Edi was hit by the splash. Edi replied it was the right eye.

The judge then asked Edi to cover his left eye with his hand. The judge raised two fingers and asked if Edi could see them with his right eye.

“Try covering your left eye, use your hand, use your left hand. How many is this?” the judge asked. Edi admitted he could not see them.

In this case, the defendants are charged under Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code. Subsidiary to Article 468 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code. Further subsidiary to Article 467 paragraph (1) jo paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code.

The prosecutor stated that the background for the defendants throwing the chemical liquid at Andrie Yunus was to give a deterrent lesson so as not to badmouth the TNI.

The prosecutor explained that the four defendants met Andrie in March 2025 when Andrie forced his way in and interrupted a meeting on revising the TNI Law at a hotel in Jakarta.

“With that incident, the defendants considered that Andrie Yunus had insulted the TNI institution, even trampling on the TNI institution,” the prosecutor said.
