Judge Rebukes Soldier in Trial for Acid Attack Case: Don't Daydream
The reprimand was delivered by the presiding judge, Colonel CHK Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto, after the indictment was read in the courtroom of the East Jakarta Military Court on Wednesday (29/4/2026). The four defendants in this case are Defendant I Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, Defendant II Lieutenant One Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Defendant III Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and Defendant IV Lieutenant One Sami Lakka.
Initially, the judge asked where Defendant I, Edi, was—the one who got splashed with acid while pouring it on Andrie Yunus. However, Edi only responded after being called twice by the judge.
“Where is Defendant I, Defendant II earlier where? One?” the judge asked.
“Defendant I?” the judge continued.
“Present,” Edi replied.
The judge asked Edi not to daydream. The judge then inquired about the parts of Edi’s body that were splashed with acid.
“Don’t daydream. Earlier in the indictment, it was mentioned that you were hit?” the judge asked.
“Present,” Edi replied.
“Hit where?” the judge asked.
“On the arm, chest, neck, mouth, eye,” Edi replied while pointing to the affected areas.
The judge then asked Edi to remove his hat. However, Edi instead removed and took off his glasses. The judge repeated the order to Edi.
“Try removing your hat,” said the judge, but Edi removed his glasses instead.
“Remove your hat,” the judge said again.
Edi then removed and took off his hat. Edi stated that his right eye was also splashed with acid.
“The eye too?” the judge asked.
“Present,” Edi replied.
“Which eye?” the judge asked.
“The right one,” Edi replied.
The judge then asked Edi to cover his left eye with his hand. The judge raised two fingers and asked if Edi could see them with his right eye alone.
“Cover your left eye, use your hand, use your left hand. How many is this?” the judge asked.
“Can’t see, permission,” Edi replied.
“Yes, put it back on,” the judge interjected, asking Edi to put his hat back on.
Previously, the military prosecutor charged the four TNI soldiers with pouring acid on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The military prosecutor stated that the defendants carried out the action out of annoyance with Andrie.
The prosecutor said the defendants learned of Andrie on 16 March 2025 when Andrie entered and interrupted a DPR meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law held at the Fairmont Hotel in South Jakarta. The defendants considered Andrie’s actions to have insulted the TNI institution.
In short, the defendants sought information about Andrie Yunus’s activities. They divided tasks during the acid pouring.
“At that time, Defendant I searched for information from Google regarding Brother Andrie Yunus’s activities,” he said.
The prosecutor charged the four soldiers with violating Article 469 paragraph 1 subsidiary to Article 468 paragraph 1 further subsidiary to Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
