Judge Postpones Nadiem's Hearing to 4 May, Awaiting Nadiem Makarim's Recovery
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The panel of judges has decided to postpone the hearing in the alleged corruption case regarding the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops for the defendant, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim, until 4 May 2026.
“Then the panel of judges decides to postpone this examination, waiting until the defendant is healthy, as also stated in the doctor’s recommendation that he rests for nine days from 25 April to 3 May. So, looking at that, it means the possibility is 4 May,” said the Chief Judge of the Panel, Purwanto S Abdullah, during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (27/4/2026).
“Then, to also protect the defendant’s rights, it may be submitted by the defendant through his advocate in this case under Article 217, which is the defendant’s right to provide responses or questions to the witnesses or experts presented,” Purwanto added.
Currently, Nadiem’s detention is suspended because he is being treated in hospital.
“With this suspension, the detention status naturally stops and is not counted as detention,” the judge said again.
Then, on 11 May 2026, Nadiem will be examined as the defendant.
Today, Nadiem was again unable to attend the hearing. He has been treated at Abdi Waluyo Hospital since Saturday (25/4/2026).
“We received information and even a medical certificate from Abdi Waluyo Hospital and the doctor treating the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim, stating that Mr Nadiem Anwar Makarim cannot or is not permitted to attend the trial today,” said the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Roy Riady during the hearing.
Roy stated that Nadiem is being treated because he requires intensive care.
“Because, as in the summary made by the doctor and the doctor’s certificate, there is a long-standing illness that requires intensive treatment with antibiotics in hospital, like that, Your Honour,” Roy said.
Based on the doctor’s examination results, Nadiem needs treatment for approximately nine days or until 3 May 2026.
In this case, former Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim, along with three other defendants, is said to have caused state financial losses amounting to Rp 2.1 trillion.
Nadiem is charged with enriching himself by Rp 809 billion. This amount is said to come from Google’s investment in Gojek or PT AKAB.
