Judge Orders Investigation into Former Lotim Regent and Secretary in Chromebook Case
The Corruption Court Panel in Mataram has once again ordered the public prosecutor to investigate former East Lombok Regent Sukiman Azmy and East Lombok Regional Secretary Juaini Taofik in the corruption case involving the procurement of information and communication technology (ICT) devices in the form of chromebooks by the East Lombok Education and Culture Office in 2022. The two are said to have received fund flows amounting to Rp 1.8 billion in the case.
The fund flows were revealed in the verdict for the case of Director of PT Temprina Media Grafika, Libert Hutahaean, and Director of PT Dinamika Indo Media, Lia Anggawari, read out by the judge panel.
“Testimony in the witness examination record of Salmukin, consistent with other evidence, shows fund flows of approximately Rp 1.3 billion to Sukiman Azmy, former East Lombok Regent, and approximately Rp 500 million to M Juaini Taofik, East Lombok Regional Secretary, related to conditioning the procurement in the aforementioned case,” said Member Judge Fadhli Handra on Monday (4/5/2026).
Salmukin had previously retracted that testimony in court. However, the judge panel deemed the retraction did not eliminate its evidentiary value.
“Because it is still supported by the consistency of other facts revealed in the trial,” he stated.
The ad hoc judge of the Mataram District Court stated there were strong indications of the involvement of the two officials. Therefore, the panel ordered the prosecutor to follow up on these findings.
“Although the panel lacks the authority to designate someone as a suspect, for the sake of upholding the law and justice, the judge panel deems it necessary to emphasise and order the public prosecutor to follow up on the trial facts by conducting further investigation and development against Sukiman Azmy, former East Lombok Regent, and Juaini Taofik, East Lombok Regional Secretary, in accordance with applicable laws,” he ordered.
The panel emphasised that this order is part of the moral and juridical responsibility to ensure comprehensive law enforcement without favouritism.
“Thus, the handling of the aforementioned case does not stop at the defendants. It must be developed to uncover involved parties, for the achievement of justice,” he said.
