Judge Orders Continuation of Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case; TNI Responds
The decision by the South Jakarta District Court (PN Jaksel) ordering the Metro Jaya Regional Police to continue the investigation into the acid attack against the Vice Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, has prompted responses from various parties. One such response came from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Headquarters. The institution emphasised that it respects the court’s ruling and is prepared to support the ongoing legal process in accordance with the respective authorities of each institution.
The Head of the TNI Public Relations Centre, Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, stated that the institution has chosen to await further steps from law enforcement officials after the panel of judges granted part of the pretrial motion filed by Andrie Yunus’s legal team. “In principle, the TNI respects the court’s decision and all applicable legal processes,” he told reporters on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
He noted that the handling of the case currently falls within the domain of law enforcement agencies that possess investigative authority. Therefore, the TNI will not interfere in the ongoing process. “Since this case pertains to the law enforcement process which is the authority of the relevant law enforcement agencies, we shall collectively await the follow-up,” he said.
Nevertheless, Muhammad Nas ensured that the TNI will not obstruct the legal process should coordination or specific support from the institution be required in the future. “What is certain is that the TNI will support the legal process in accordance with applicable regulations, and if there are matters requiring coordination with the TNI, they will certainly be followed up according to existing mechanisms and authority,” he added.
It was previously reported that the South Jakarta District Court granted part of the pretrial motion filed by Andrie Yunus, an activist from the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), regarding the alleged assault. “Granting the petitioner’s motion in part,” stated the Chief Judge of the South Jakarta District Court, Suparna, during the pretrial hearing on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. The judge ruled that the petitioner possesses legal standing and the right to file the pretrial motion for the case in question. Furthermore, the judge ordered the respondent to continue the legal process regarding police report number LP/A/222/III/2026/Satreskrim/Restro Jakpus/Polda Metro Jaya, dated 13 March 2026. “Charging the court costs to the respondent in the amount of nil,” he concluded.
