Judge: Miscommunication within Police Force in Handling Andrie Yunus Case
The Panel of Judges at the South Jakarta District Court has assessed that there was miscommunication within the internal structure of the Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding the handling of the report alleging the assault of Andrie Yunus, an activist from the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS). This statement was delivered by the Presiding Judge of the South Jakarta District Court, Suparna, while reading the pretrial verdict on Tuesday.
“Considering that, based on the facts outlined above, it appears there was miscarriages of communication within the Respondent institution,” the Judge stated.
The Judge noted that, from the investigators’ perspective, the investigation process conducted by the Metro Jaya Regional Police is still ongoing and has not yet issued a Letter of Notice of Termination of Investigation (SP3). However, during a hearing with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), the Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police stated that they had already submitted the case files and evidence to the Indonesian National Armed Forces Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI).
A similar statement was made by the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police during a press conference on 1 April 2026, asserting that the authority of the police investigators had ended following the handover of investigation results and evidence to the Military Police.
“We reaffirm that the case files have been transferred and currently the authority of the Metro Jaya Regional Police investigators has reached that point, handing over the investigation results and evidence digitally and so forth,” the Judge quoted the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police.
