Judge Highlights Sleeve Differences in Uniforms of Defendants in Bank Branch Head Murder Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Panel of Judges at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta highlighted differences in the uniform sleeve usage among three Indonesian Army (AD) soldiers during the initial hearing of the case involving the death of a bank branch head with initials MIP (37).
Presiding Judge Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto questioned the inconsistency during the defendant identity examination agenda.
“Why is this different? One has long sleeves, the other two have rolled-up sleeves,” said Fredy in the courtroom at Military Court II-08 Jakarta, Cakung, East Jakarta, on Monday.
The three defendants, namely Sergeant MN (defendant 1), Second Lieutenant FH (defendant 2), and Sergeant FY (defendant 3), appeared wearing military uniforms.
However, there was a striking difference in how they wore their shirt sleeves. Defendants one and two appeared to have rolled up their uniform sleeves, while defendant three wore the Field Duty Uniform (PDL) with full-length sleeves unrolled and a cap.
This difference immediately caught the panel of judges’ attention during the hearing. In response, defendant three FY explained that wearing the uniform with unrolled sleeves was a habit in daily duty execution.
FY stated that the attire worn complied with applicable regulations.
The defendants’ legal counsel further affirmed that the latest rules within the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) indeed regulated the wearing of PDL uniforms without rolling up the sleeves.
The judge deemed uniformity still important in the trial, especially since all three defendants came from the same institution. Fredy reminded them to adjust the attire usage in the future.
“Why is it different? Aren’t they still detained together? If possible, uniformise their clothing,” he said.
This difference was then explained by the Head of the Military Audit Office (Kaotmil) II-07 Jakarta, Andri Wijaya. He stated that not all defendants were in the same detention status.
According to Andri, defendant three FY was not in detention, hence the difference in uniform usage compared to the other two defendants.
The spotlight on the detail of uniform sleeve usage became a unique dynamic in the first hearing amid the court’s efforts to uncover legal facts in the case of Mohammad Ilham Pradipta’s death.
Then, defendants one and two immediately lowered their sleeve rolls, so all three defendants were once again uniform in their attire.
