Juanda to become int'l airport

SURABAYA, East Java: The Juanda airport will next year be developed into a modern and sophisticated international airport, an airport official said here on Wednesday.

Bambang Utomo, director of PT Angkasa Pura in Surabaya, said the refurbishment would cost Rp 2 trillion and would begin in January.

The money will be derived from soft loans from Japan, he added.

He said the 350-hectare airport would be expanded to 750 hectares.

"The expansion will encompass the landing area, lobby, departure and arrival spaces, as well as parking lots," he said.

The airport will be equipped with additional facilities, including TV monitors, Bambang added. --JP
