Juanda Airport Handles 266,000 Travellers Amid Temporary Closure of Bali
Juanda International Airport in Surabaya has been bustling with 266,910 Eid travellers. This figure represents a 2.9 per cent increase compared to the previous year’s Eid al-Fitr transport period.
General Manager of Juanda International Airport Muhammad Tohir stated that the number of flights recorded during this time totalled 1,808 movements, or a 2.8 per cent rise from last year.
“Since the start of the 2026 Eid transport period, from 13-18 March 2026, the number of passengers reached 266,910, up 2.9 per cent from last year,” said Tohir on Thursday (19/3).
Tohir noted that over this one-week Eid homecoming period, the average daily passengers at Juanda numbered 44,000 per day. The average number of flights reached 301 movements per day.
“From 13-18 March 2026, the highest number of passengers occurred on 14 March 2026, with 47,547 passengers,” he said.
The dominant flight routes during this homecoming period were domestic ones, such as to Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Cengkareng) with 50,030 passengers, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport (Makassar) with 29,065 passengers, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali) with 28,250 passengers.
“Up to now, services during the Eid transport period have been running well and smoothly,” said Tohir.
On Nyepi Day itself, Tohir explained, flights from Surabaya to Bali were closed for 24 hours. Several flights were affected.
“Namely, 16 incoming aircraft movements and 14 departing aircraft movements by airlines Super Air Jet, Citilink, Lion Air, Batik Air, and Garuda Indonesia,” he stated.
Tohir advised passengers to arrive at the airport 2-3 hours before departure time, especially during peak hours, to anticipate potential delays due to weather factors or traffic density.
