JSX bombing suspects moved to Cipinang jail

JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta Prosecutor's Office moved on Friday six suspects accused of the bomb attack on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) building last September, from the police detention center to Cipinang jail, pending their trial.

The office's assistant for general crimes, Suhardjono, said state and military prosecutors would study the investigation dossiers before deciding which cases are assigned to a civilian court or military tribunal.

"Certainly the general trial will be held at the South Jakarta District Court. We will soon submit the case to the court," Soehardjono said.

The suspects will remain in the prosecutors' custody until Feb. 1, he added.

The prosecutor's office took possession the suspects early in the day bringing an end to their confinement at the police detention center where they have been held since Nov. 25. Prosecutors also accepted three dossiers submitted by the Jakarta joint investigation team, which included personnel from the city police and military command.

The first dossier related to three suspects, namely Ibrahim AMD, and soldiers Chief Sgt. Irwan and Chief Corp. Ibrahim Hasam.

Irwan was a member of the Army's Special Force (Kopassus), while Ibrahim was a member of the Army's Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad). Ibrahim was captured during a crackdown on marijuana dealing.

The three are accused of violating Article 1 paragraph 1 of Emergency Law No. 12/1951 for possessing and using ammunition or explosive material. The crime carries a maximum penalty of death and a minimum 20-year jail term.

They are also charged with violating Article 187 and Article 200 of the Criminal Code for causing an explosion and destroying a building.

The second dossier relates to Iswadi H. Jamil, alias Bang Is, who is charged under the Emergency Law, as well as Article 55 of the Criminal Code regarding collaboration and persuasion in the execution of a crime.

The third dossier details charges against Tengku Ismuhadi Jafar and Nuryadin, who are charged with violating the Emergency Law, Article 200 of the Criminal Code for destroying a building, and Article 338 of the Criminal Code relating to crimes which cause death.

Ismuhadi is the owner of Krung Motor Baru auto repair shop in Ciganjur, South Jakarta, where the bomb was allegedly assembled.

The bomb exploded in the second basement of the JSX building on Sept. 13, leaving at least 10 people dead, 46 others injured and 179 cars destroyed.

In addition to the suspects, joint investigators also delivered 40 items of evidence to the prosecutors, which included a Suzuki Sidekick jeep, a Toyota Kijang van, the remains of a maroon Toyota Mark II sedan in which the bomb was planted, wires and leads used to make the bomb, and a red carpet removed from the site where the bomb was allegedly assembled.
