JSE to attract students to Yogya

YOGYAKARTA: The provincial Regional Information Agency (BID) is holding a four-day exhibition on education, Jogja Smart Expo (JSE), to attract more students to study in the province.

Scheduled to run until May 24, 2004, JSE also includes an exhibition with information on around 3,000 job opportunities.

The jobs, according to Hermawan Ardiyanto of the JSE organizing committee, came from some 40 companies in Jakarta, Surakarta, Surabaya and Yogyakarta.

"The exhibition is also being held to deal with the problem of a drop in the number of students at Yogyakarta," Hermawan said.

It was unfortunate that a private university once had fewer than 50 students enrolled while it could accommodate some 500. --JP
