Coinciding with the inaugural Car Free Day at Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Kuningan, South Jakarta, the Jakarta Provincial Government conducted a series of activities promoting healthy lifestyles, environmental sustainability, and responsible waste management. As part of these activities, the Governor of Jakarta, accompanied by local government officials, visited the JS Luwansa Hotel and Convention Center Jakarta, which currently serves as a best-practice model for waste management within the hospitality sector.

The visit serves as an expression of appreciation for JS Luwansa’s commitment to supporting environmental programmes through the consistent implementation of waste sorting systems in both public and operational areas. During the visit, the Governor personally inspected several waste sorting points within the hotel premises. In the lobby area, specifically in front of the lifts, three waste compartments are provided for organic, non-organic, and residual waste. Additionally, in various other public areas, the hotel provides sorting facilities for organic, non-organic, B3 (Hazardous and Toxic Materials), and residual waste.

JS Luwansa’s commitment to waste management extends beyond guest-facing areas. All hotel departments perform internal waste sorting processes. The sorted waste is then collected at the Loading Dock area and managed by a Waste Bank team for further processing. Meanwhile, organic or wet waste is collected in a dedicated Wet Garbage area before being transported daily by third-party partners contracted by the hotel.

The management of JS Luwansa Hotel & Convention Center stated that this visit serves as motivation for the entire team to continue enhancing their existing sustainability practices. “We are honoured to be part of the Car Free Day momentum on Jalan Rasuna Said. The Governor’s visit encourages us to continue developing an environmentally conscious culture, particularly through waste management starting from the source. We believe that significant change can begin with simple, consistent steps,” said Vivek Kumar, General Manager of JS Luwansa Hotel and Convention Center.

Located in the heart of the Kuningan business district, JS Luwansa continues to strive for operations that focus not only on excellent service but also on delivering a positive impact on the environment and the surrounding community. Through the provision of waste sorting facilities in public areas, employee education, and collaboration with various parties in waste management, the hotel aims to inspire other industry players to adopt more sustainable business practices.
