JPS Supports DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency in Cracking Down on Illegal Parking to Reduce Congestion
Jakarta Public Service (JPS) Executive Director M Syaiful Jihad has expressed full support for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency’s move to crack down on illegal parking on a number of roads as an effort to improve public services and reduce congestion. “This enforcement is part of an effort to improve services to the community while maintaining smooth traffic flow in the capital,” said Syaiful in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stated that the presence of illegal parking is a factor that triggers congestion because it reduces road capacity. Illegal parking can also impede the flow of vehicles by causing bottlenecks, especially on road sections with high mobility levels. “Illegal parking is not just a matter of rule violations, but also has a direct impact on congestion,” he said. He noted that haphazardly parked vehicles reduce road capacity, triggering vehicle queues and disrupting traffic flow. “For this reason, enforcement must be carried out consistently,” Syaiful said. He explained that the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency’s move is a form of service to road users. The public has the right to safe, orderly, and comfortable road access without being disturbed by vehicles parked in inappropriate locations. He stressed that the crackdown on illegal parking is also a form of law enforcement that has a clear regulatory basis, namely Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation. In addition, its implementation is reinforced through DKI Jakarta Provincial Regulation Number 5 of 2014 on Transportation, which regulates traffic management, including parking arrangement and supervision. “The regulations are clear, so rule enforcement must be carried out firmly, yet humanely, prioritising the aspect of education for the public so that awareness of orderly parking increases. The indiscriminate crackdown on illegal parking, including luxury cars, is good,” Syaiful explained. He added that enforcement needs to be balanced with preventive measures. One such measure is placing officers at points that have been prone to illegal parking so that violations can be prevented from the outset. Routine guarding in areas vulnerable to illegal parking is very important. The presence of officers will provide a deterrent effect so that violations do not recur and traffic conditions are maintained. “We appreciate the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency under the leadership of Budi Awaluddin, who continues to seek various solutions in parking management, including implementing traffic discretion according to field needs so as not to disrupt public mobility,” Syaiful said.
