A lecturer at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, with initials DK, was raided by his wife and residents while in a boarding house with a female student. The Indonesian Education Monitoring Network (JPPI) is urging UIN Jambi to dismiss DK.

“JPPI urges the campus authorities not to hesitate in taking the step of dismissal if a serious violation is proven. The campus must not become a ‘protector’ for predators or individuals who damage the image of education,” said JPPI Coordinator Ubaid Matraji to reporters on Monday (4/5/2026).

According to him, strict sanctions are essential for two reasons. First, to create a deterrent effect, so that no more rogue lecturers feel they can hide behind their academic positions to commit indecent acts.

“(The second reason) is student protection. Students are in a vulnerable position. If the campus is lenient towards serious ethical violations like this, then the campus has failed in its mandate as a protector of its academic community,” he added.

Ubaid said JPPI will continue to monitor the process of this case to ensure there is no ‘under-the-table’ compromise or resolution that is merely perfunctory. He stated that the campus should be a safe space and a centre of moral excellence, not a place where power imbalances between lecturers and students are abused.

“This is a hard slap to the integrity of our higher education,” said Ubaid.

“JPPI sees this as the tip of the iceberg of weak implementation of codes of ethics and oversight of educators’ behaviour in the higher education environment,” he added.

Previously, the lecturer with initials DK was raided by his wife and residents while in a boarding house with a female student. DK was sleeping with a female student from one of the state universities in Jambi.

DK’s wife conducted the raid accompanied by the RT Chairman, the Ward Head, police, and the village military officer after tailing him. UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi regrets the occurrence of this incident.

“In connection with this matter, UIN STS Jambi deeply regrets and laments the raiding incident involving one of the rogue lecturers. We will immediately conduct a deeper investigation to take firm action,” said the Rector of UIN STS Jambi, Prof Kasful Anwar, in a written statement reported by detikSumbagsel on Sunday (3/5/2026).

UIN STS Jambi has taken firm steps against the rogue lecturer. DK has now been temporarily deactivated from his additional position as deputy dean. UIN STS Jambi has also temporarily halted the rogue lecturer’s involvement in various activities representing the institution, both internally and externally on campus.

“This is to maintain the objectivity of the examination and academic conduciveness in the campus environment,” he stressed.
